well i'm definitely no expert but if i had a question regarding fuel comsumption i'd prolly first read my spark plug (fouling?), change my gas station for a couple weeks or so, mebbe look at putting in a fuel filter, etc. you've already covered driving habits (i.e. you're not riding any different routes or distances on average?).
i think if my plug looked good and i noticed no change in performance or sound i'd chalk it up to fuel quality. hopefully someone else here can pinpoint it for you.
